Traveling? Find Some Drinks!
What are you most looking forward to when you take a vacation? What about if you’re going on a last minute business trip without your boss? Most Americans are looking for some rest and relaxation for vacation, but a close second is enjoying a cocktail! (Making love was a distant third place)
So, I’ve asked some friends in the travel industry to send me the drink that symbolized their city for both vacationers and business travelers. Oh, and these cities have plenty of taxis so you can get back to your hotel (safely!) to finish that report you’re supposed to give your boss! Yeah – good luck with that.

The (un)official drink of Miami has to be the Mojito. When properly crafted, the drink is both refreshing and exotic: Rum, sugar, lime and mint leaves blended with a touch of fizz to tie it all together. The trend in Miami these last couple of years has hand-crafted variations on the theme: Blueberry Mojito, Coconut Mojito and even Mango Mojitos, among others.

The Sazerac! One cube sugar; 2 ½ oz. rye whiskey, 2 bashes bitters, absinthe, garnish with lemon peel in an old-fashioned glass. Part of the ritual is to actually mix the drink and muddle the sugar in the old-fashioned glass (not a mixing glass). The Manhattan. I guess by saying: “Only the tourists drink Cosmos” is defeating the purpose of this article. But what speaks of style and The City more than the name of the island itself: Manhattan.
Combine vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and bitters with 2 – 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Stir gently, don’t bruise the spirits and cloud the drink. Place the cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the whiskey mixture over the cherry. Orange peel twist for the oils, but don’t drop it in! – Ryan, Regional VP Hotel Product

Gin… Breaking the rules a bit here, but at trendy ‘Speakeasy’ style bars in Seattle – like the Bathtub Gin & Co. – ask your bartender to surprise you with your favorite drink made from one of the many local gins.
