Spring’s lush colors on the Italian Riviera are worth a visit so you can literally smell the roses. Sanremo is a casino town in the heart of the Riviera dei Fiori, or the flowering coast. Brilliant magenta bougainvilleas cascades down rocky slopes, barely stopping for spiny cacti, as trumpets of morning glories clamber through oleander bushes that are dense with blossoms.

Tuesday and Saturday mornings are the best days of the week to explore the famous Central Market Hall in Sanremo’s old quarter. The narrow streets with open shops are whimsical, making you feel rejuvenated by the minute. This is the perfect time for you to fill your basket to its brim with soft and fragrant olive oil, tasty pesto and delicious Sanremo Baci (cookies).Casino Sanremo

The cathedral’s bell announces pranzo, or a pause, for lunch and all menus are posted on the street. You must not leave without stopping for a meal at Ristorante Le Quattro Stagioni. Tiny ravioli filled with borage in an herb sauce- a typical Lugurian marriage of herbs- plus fresh greens and pasta. It is just delicious, tender, perfect; it cannot be missed! You can even sip a soft red wine with your meal to wash it all down as you take in the sights and sounds of the beautiful city. The local wine, Rossese di Dolceaqua is the perfect option.

Wines served at the restaurant are supplied per bacco , and the owner’s wine bar next door sells more then 400 different types of wine!
The city also offers incredibly talented live musicians- a great way to spend a lovely spring or summer evenings. Live music, good wine, more summer flavors to explore; What more could you ask for on your trip to Sanremo?
