Tour de France

It’s the Tour de France. Need I say more?

When: July 2nd

Where: Primarily in France, but often the route makes passes through neighboring countries


4th of July

This year marks the 340th birthday of the U.S. of A, so fireworks shows are bound to be more explosive than ever; barbecues will be even more mouth-watering; and cocktails will be EVEN MORE festive! Red, white, and booze, anyone?

Biarritz Surf Festival

People come from all over the world to take part in the various exotic water sports compeitions. When not going for a dip in the deep blue water of the Bay of Biscay, Biarritz is known for its for its nightlife and grand beachside casino, The Barrière.

When: July 8th-12th

Where: Biarritz, France


Bastille Day

Bastille Day not only commemorates the historic Storming of the Bastille in 1789, during the start of the French Revolution, but also celebrates the Fête de la Fédérationwhich serves as a celebration of the unity of the French nation as a result of being ruled by a new form of national government the following year. Celebrations include fundraising dance parties at fire stations, fireworks shows, jet shows performed by the Air Force, and the biggest parade in all of Europe: a military parade that takes place along the Champs Elysées.

Sziget Festival

One of the largest music and cultural festivals in Europe, the Sziget Festival offers over 1,000 performances on a lush island in the middle of the Danube, and has been labeled as the European alternative to Burning Man (read ahead!) AND has been ranked as one of the top 5 best festivals in Europe for the last 5 years.

When: August 10th-17th

Where: Budapest, Hungary


Burning Man

“A city in the desert. A culture of possibility. A network of dreamers and doers”. Every year, tens of thousands of free spirits gather in the desert to create a temporary city dedicated to community, art, and self-expression.

When: August 28th-September 5th

Where: Black Rock Desert, Nevada, The U.S.

La Tomatina

Known as the biggest food fight in the world, La Tomatina, is literally an hour-long event that consists of people hurling tomatoes at one other. There are some theories as to how this tradition started, but the most popular and accepted one is, “just because”.

When: August 31st

Where: Buñol, Valencia, Spain (a small handful of cities around the world have started their own tomato fights as well)
